Emergency Response for Air and Sea Transport

The International Air Transport Association produce the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.  Some countries (e.g. France) include, under their variation of the Regulations, a requirement for a 24-hr emergency telephone number to be shown on the Dangerous Goods Declaration for all hazardous goods consignments.

Many airlines declare a requirement for an emergency telephone number before they will take a shipment.  For a full list of  countries and airlines that demand this provision please click here.

For hazardous goods transported by sea, the International Maritime Organisation publish the IMDG Code.  As with air freight, many shipping lines and some countries (e.g. USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Thailand etc.) may also insist on a 24/7/365 specialist emergency telephone number that can be accessed internationally.

It is always good practice to display a reliable emergency telephone number on all Dangerous Goods declarations.
